Workshop on Enhancing Non State Actor Participation in the SADC-EU Economic Partnership Agreement: 20th March 2009, Johannesburg |
As part of the SADC Secretariat's activities to enhance Non State Actor (NSA) involvement in the SADC-EU Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), a workshop was held at the Birchwood Hotel, Johannesburg on the 20th March 2009. The workshop drew on consultations with NSAs on the EPA in Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia and Swaziland already undertaken for the SADC Secretariat. Through these consultations specific priorities for NSA involvement and generic constraints to effective involvement were identified. A summary of these findings was presented by each country NSA representative and formed the basis to take forward the programme of activities for enhancing NSA participation in EPA. Additional activities identified included establishing an EPA information portal and network through a website, carrying out sponsored EPA studies, and holding another workshop that will assist the Secretariat to better represent the interests of their stakeholders in the EPA process
