History
Imani Enterprise Ltd, the youngest member of the Imani group, was established
in April 2003 by Murdoch Gatward in partnership with the Imani group.
John McGrath of the Imani Malawi office played a crucial role in establishing
the company. The Managing Director is Murdoch Gatward with John McGrath
and Richard Hess as non-executive Directors.
Location
The Imani Enterprise Ltd office has been established on the West Coast
of Scotland in Oban. The location represents the core business activity
of Enterprise Development. This area is fast expanding on a base of
small and medium sized enterprise development. By having the office
in an area of enterprise growth it is ideally situated to be part of
local development, as well as being able to keep up with current best
practice in the sector. With low cost flights out of Glasgow London
is just three hours away, along with all the other major European destinations
and links to International travel. An added bonus is that it is a beautiful
location and overheads are a fraction of being in a large city!
Core Business
Being a new company Imani Enterprise Ltd is still developing its business
portfolio. Murdoch Gatward’s background over the last 15 years
has been in Fair Trade, both in Africa and the UK; this has therefore
been the primary focus of business for the company. This work includes
supply chain analysis and monitoring, evaluation/social audit work,
producer development and social enterprise development as well as management
consultancy in the private, as well as social enterprise, sectors.
All the business activities are grouped within the Trade and Economic,
Community development framework.
Main Clients
The largest client for Imani Enterprise Ltd is Cafedirect which is the
largest hot drinks Fair Trade supplier in the UK. Imani Enterprise
Ltd manages and implements the Teadirect Producer Support and Development
programme in East Africa. It has also undertaken work for Traidcraft
who are a major client. Locally Imani Enterprise Ltd is involved in
Community development consultancy and social audit development with
clients such as Community Business Scotland and The Mull and Iona Community
Trust.
Other Associates
Imani Enterprise Ltd has a data base of associates who provide technical
consultancy services on contract as required. It is also developing
contacts with other consultancy organisations such as Public Policy
Consulting and MCM Associates. The organisation’s strategy is
to grow in association with other local organisations utilising the
skills that each individual Associate or organisation brings.
