Who We Are

Imani Development (South Africa) and TMT Projects. formed a Consortium in 2000 to bid and work together on transport projects. The Consortium was converted into a joint venture company in September 2002. The following projects are amongst a number that have been undertaken since the formation of the Consortium:
  • Transport and development study of the Coast-to-Coast Corridor (for the Development Bank of Southern Africa). This project covered the route between Walvis Bay in Namibia and Maputo in Mozambique and examined road, rail and port developments, transport logistics and economic development projects with a special emphasis on tourism. The Corridor included five countries (Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, Mozambique and Swaziland).
  • Factors Affecting Usage of the N4 (East) Road Corridor for Freight Transport (for Trans-African Concessions). This study covered the "Maputo Corridor" road between Witbank in South Africa's Mpumalanga Province and the Port of Maputo in Mozambique.
  • Macroeconomic Perspective on the Proposed N1 Toll Plaza (for the South African National Road Agency Limited).
  • Evaluation of the Advance Cargo Information System (ACIS) for COMESA. This study involved fieldwork in Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda and Burundi, and close liaison with the COMESA Secretariat (the implementing agency), UNCTAD (the designers of the system) and the EU (the financing agency).
  • Traffic and revenue study on the Nacala Corridor (for Nedcor Development Bank). This study involved an independent assessment of traffic and revenue on the railways and at the port for the period 2002-20019, taking into account the views of users, the costs and logistical issues on alternative routes, and the origin and destination of traffic. The consultants: inspected and assessed traffic at the Mwanza and Mchinji borders; rode on the railway from Blantyre to Nampula to evaluate border crossing procedures and railway speeds and times; inspected the port at Nacala; and travelled to Tete to evaluate logistics on that route.
  • A technical paper on logistics on the Nacala Corridor (for the Nacala Development Corridor Secretariat). This study, built on information collected for the Nedcor study, focused on comparative costs/time/convenience on the competitor transport routes, and on constraints that need to be overcome to make the Nacala Corridor more competitive for traffic from Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia.
  • A financial and economic appraisal of the reconstruction of the Rivi Rivi railway bridge on the Nacala line in Malawi (for DFID, Malawi). The bridge had been washed away in a flood in 2003 with a resultant diversion of traffic from Nacala to other ports.
  • An overview of economic benefits accruing from the operation of a seamless Nacala Development Corridor (for the Development Bank of Southern Africa). This study built on and updated the previous Nacala studies in order to convince the three governments concerned of the economic importance of the corridor.
  • A business plan for the Mtwara Development Corridor (for the Development Bank of Southern Africa).
