Who We Are

Brief history of the company and its directors
Imani Consultants (Mauritius) Ltd (ICML) was established in 1994 as the first new regional country office after Zimbabwe. The idea of setting up an office in Mauritius was to be a base for undertaking assignments in the Indian Ocean countries as well as with a view to offering Imani consultancy services to clients in the Indian Ocean countries requiring trade and investment assignments undertaken on the African continent. It would also provide a bridge to the countries of Asia. The present directors of ICML are Richard Hess and Veepin Bhowon. Veepin has been with the company since its establishment in 1994.

Office location
The company is situated almost in the middle of the island of Mauritius in a small town called Quatre Bornes. Mauritius being an island only of 70 kms by 45 kms, it is strange to find so many different micro-climates. Quatre Bornes has a temperate climate and is 10 minutes drive from the capital city of Port Louis which is much warmer and more humid.

Overview of Core Business Areas
ICML consultancy services cover the areas of macro and micro-economic consultancy, trade development, trade policy and investment advice, as well as market surveys. ICML has recently developed consultancy in the areas of agriculture in association with local consultants.

ICML has carried out a number of projects for the Indian Ocean Commission. Furthermore, one of the strengths of ICML is that it is the main company in the group to carry out studies in French speaking countries. This covers IOC countries as well as the French Speaking countries in Africa.

The geographical coverage of ICML assignments includes Burundi, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Namibia, Madagascar, Mauritius, Malawi, Malaysia, Mayotte, Mozambique, Réunion Island, Rwanda, Seychelles, Singapore, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Main clients
ICML’s main clients include the Government of Mauritius, Mauritian parastatals and private institutions, as well as regional integration institutions (in particular the Indian Ocean Commission, but also including COMESA and SADC). Client donor agencies include the EC, USAID, UNDP and the ACP Secretariat.

Associations with consulting firms
ICML has been working with a number of freelance consultants from the Indian Ocean region for various projects. Recently it has joined hands with The Edge Consulting Limited to further develop the opportunities in Management consultancy.
