Business and civil society Development and governance |
|
The business community and wider civil society play important roles in the development of a country. This is through their contribution to the national economy and through their ability to influence government policy on issues ranging from labour law to international trade policy. The existence of appropriate and well-governed institutions, which can respond to the needs of the national (and regional) economy and promote social cohesion, should be ensured. The important role of Non-State Actors in development projects is increasingly being recognised.
Imani Development has been involved in many technical and human capacity-building projects. We have also led strategic planning exercises. We have worked closely with many private sector institutions and their regional associations and have provided input into human resource development for a number of businesses. A recent example of our work in this field was a programme for increasing the participation of the private sector and other Non-State Actors in the SADC EPA process.
